We’re still waiting for it and Dell’s website doesn’t say. However, the job postings we looked at said the following:

“Dell is committed to the principle of equal employment opportunity for all employees and to providing employees with a work environment free of discrimination and harassment. All employment decisions at Dell are based on business needs, job requirements and individual qualifications, without regard to race, color, religion or belief, national, social or ethnic origin, sex (including pregnancy), age, physical, mental or sensory disability, HIV Status, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, marital, civil union or domestic partnership status, past or present military service, family medical history or genetic information, family or parental status, or any other status protected by the laws or regulations in the locations where we operate. Dell will not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on any of these characteristics.”

What are the chances of Dell hiring a felon?

Is Dell on the Ban the Box list?

Unfortunately, Dell doesn’t support the two most important national initiatives — Ban the Box and the Fair Chance Business Pledge — that help ex-felons in the workplace.

Here’s why this matters. Since they aren’t behind Ban the Box, the job application may ask if you have a criminal record. We know that companies on the Ban the Box list have removed this question. This is their way to show that it’s important to find out about your skills and work history before your criminal background.

The Fair Chance Business Pledge is taken by companies to confirm that they judge all job applicants fairly. This means that your criminal record is not automatically a deal breaker when you apply for a job with them.

Does Dell have special programs for hiring felons?

No, it appears they don’t. This doesn’t tell us how to get hired at Dell, though. Read on!

What are the odds someone with a felony will get hired?

The odds are uncertain. Here’s why we have this opinion:

  • We don’t yet have their official policy on hiring ex-offenders. Having said that, their job postings confirm that they comply with equal opportunity employment laws.

Tips to get hired here with a felony

Go to the jobs page on Dell’s website. There’s a ton of great information there, including answers to the most common questions about their application process. To apply for a job, upload your resume and fill in all the data required.

Here are some helpful tips to get a job at Dell with a felony:

Highlight your computer know-how — Can you work on a computer. Don’t just stop at the basics required for the job you’re applying for. Add your experience with databases and your love of computer games. This demonstrates why you want to work in tech.

Talk up any awards and certificates you have — This is in addition to educational achievements. Bring these with you to your interview. You should be proud of anything that shows you’ve been recognized for putting in extra effort. The hiring manager will know that you like to learn and grow.

Dell has some good ratings. For instance, on glassdoor.com, over 13,000 reviewers give them 3.9 out of 5 stars. 81% say they’d recommend the company to a friend. In addition, an amazing 91% approve of the CEO, Michael Dell. Here’s feedback from a current employee Glassdoor gives as a good example:
