What are the chances of Crown Holdings hiring a felon?

Is Crown Holdings on the Ban the Box list?

Nothing we found showed that Crown Holdings supported The Ban the Box campaign or The Fair Chance Business Pledge. Each campaign was created specifically for former offenders.

Ban the Box is a campaign used to persuade employers to remove questions about criminal records from their applications. The Fair Chance Business Pledge is made up of companies committed to practicing fair hiring policies — even for former felons. Their goal is to make it easier for felons to have a fair chance at employment that is based on skills, not on criminal records.

However, you should know that Crown Holdings does not ask about any criminal history on their application.

Does Crown Holdings have programs for hiring felons?

Crown Holdings, unfortunately, is not a company that offers programs for felons.

The good news is there are many programs and agencies that help former felons. Some of these programs provide money for work clothes or tools, give you substance abuse support and they’ll even assist you in starting your own business.

An example is Vocational Rehabilitation. They offer several different types of assistance, so make sure you check them out.

What are some entry-level jobs?

Crown Holdings has many job possibilities due to their many locations and different plants. The duties and requirements will depend on the job picked.

Here are a few jobs with minimum requirements:

  • General Labor/Janitor — This job involves housekeeping inside and outside of the plant.
  • Utility/General Cleaning — This position requires general cleaning duties and stocking supplies.
  • Entry Operator — This role requires experience using hand tools and being able to operate a forklift.

Each of the above positions require a High School diploma or GED, and being able to lift up to 50lbs.

There are, of course, other jobs you can apply to if you meet the criteria. For example, there are office and machine operating jobs as well.

Tips to get hired here with a felony

We researched the company to see what we could find out about getting a job at Crown Holdings with a felony.

  • Review — Review the company and all of their jobs. Make sure the job that you are interested in is one you have the skills for. Remember, they told us, “If the applicant has a prior conviction, he/she is most likely NOT to be hired unless there are certain considerations like previous job experience and certain qualifications.”
  • Resume — Be sure to review our site to get great suggestions on dressing up your resume. Always have someone look over your resume before you submit it. Get some feedback before you send it in.
  • Application — It’s best to have your resume handy before you begin your application. Crown Holdings does request that you submit your resume with your application. Take your time and answer all questions. Here is what they say about their application:

“All applications are given a thorough evaluation by our Human Resources Recruiter and the appropriate hiring manager. The candidates whose qualifications most closely match our needs will then be invited to participate in the Interview Process.”

  • Interview — There are two steps to Crown Holdings interview process. The first interview is done by phone. Make sure the time you schedule will be free from any interruptions. Make sure you speak clearly and aren’t mumbling. The second interview will be set up so there can be a face-to-face encounter. This is where you will be asked to complete an employment application and complete a background release.

This is also where they will contact your personal references. So make sure you have some solid references, not just your bestie. Good references can be a mentor, pastor, employer or even a parole officer.

Once you are selected, you will be contacted to come in for drug screening and physical. These two things are a must in order for you to be hired.

Does Crown Holdings do background checks?

Yes. You can expect a background check and a drug screen to be performed. Crown Holdings does state that the background check and physical are done pre-employment.

Something to keep in mind regarding background checks:

There are many states that now only look at an offence if it is less than seven years old. The following are those states:

  • California
  • Colorado
  • Kansas
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Montana
  • Nevada
  • New Hampshire
  • New York
  • Texas
  • Washington

The eight states below don’t look at anything that you were not convicted of:

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Hawaii
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • New York

Unfortunately, there are some states that still look at everything. The following are those states:

  • Alabama
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Connecticut
  • DC
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Idaho
  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Mississippi
  • Missouri
  • Nebraska
  • New Jersey
  • North Carolina
  • North Dakota
  • Ohio
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Utah
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia
  • Wisconsin
  • Wyoming

Company ratings

After looking on Indeed and Glassdoor, we learned that Crown Holdings has an average rating. On, their rating was of 3.6 out of 5 stars, while rated them with 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Crown Holdings was rated high for their pay and providing health insurance for all their employees. However, many people complained about management and the lack of structure in their shifts.

What felony convictions might have a hard time getting hired here?

There are some convictions that may have a difficult time getting hired at Crown Holdings.

Due to the materials, tools and machines you would have access to, you can expect them to look at theft and violent convictions.

Drug convictions might have a hard time getting hired as well. Safety is important for companies like this, so if you can’t convince them your past is the past, these charges might be a barrier for you.

Does Crown Holdings drug test?

Yes. Crown Holdings does their drug screen before you are hired. They also require a physical to make sure you are able to perform all duties required. You must be able to pass both to be employed here.
