Is Bahama Breeze on the Ban the Box list?

By now you’re probably familiar with the background section found on most employment applications. But wouldn’t it be great if those questions about criminal history weren’t there? Well that is the sole purpose of the Ban the Box campaign. By urging employers to remove these questions, it gives the former offender a fighting chance at employment. How? It leaves the employer no choice but to look at an applicant’s qualifications instead of their criminal history to decide if they’re a worthy candidate.

Companies committed to hiring practices that don’t place jobs out of reach for those with a criminal record voluntarily take the Fair Chance Business Pledge, as well.

Bahama Breeze doesn’t support either of these programs. But does that mean Bahama Breeze can’t hire a felon? Absolutely not! Supporting these initiatives is a great thing, but it’s not a requirement for hiring someone with a record.

Does Bahama Breeze have special programs for hiring felons?

Unfortunately, Bahama Breeze doesn’t have any of these programs to offer. They do, however, offer tuition reimbursement and student loan assistance. So definitely make sure you take a look at this information.

What are the odds someone with a felony will get hired?

Does Bahama Breeze hire felons? It appears as though the odds of getting hired at Bahama Breeze with a felony are high. All the information we uncovered online suggests they’re willing to hire someone with a criminal record and have done so before. This is always great to hear!

What are some entry-level jobs?

Here are what a few entry-level positions at Bahama Breeze look like:

• Greeter — You must have great customer service and interpersonal skills since you will be greeting all guests. Responsibilities will include managing the waiting list and seating guests in a timely manner. Long hours of standing.
• Server — Will need to be able to work as a team while providing customers with hospitality and menu knowledge. This is a busy work environment with a lot going on. Accuracy as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be required for this job.
• Utility/Kitchen Staff — This position requires working in a team-oriented fast-paced environment. Must provide guests and other team members with a clean and safe work area. Cleaning dishes, restrooms, grounds, and stocking for servers and cooks is required.

These positions listed above are all hourly positions. Be sure to look at their job listings because these are not all the positions they have to offer.

Tips to get hired here with a felony

Since Bahama Breeze is a restaurant, there will be a few basic things for you to remember when applying.

Make sure that you fill in everything when completing your application. If something doesn’t apply, simply mark it with a N/A. If you live in one of the states where you are required to answer the questions about your background, we suggest you put “will discuss in interview” so you can control the conversation.

Your last step will be the interview. We understand that this can be a bit intimidating as well. Remember, you got this! Here are some great tips for it:

1. Remove or cover any unconventional piercings and tattoos. Some restaurants don’t allow these, so err on the side of caution. This is a great end-of-interview question, by the way!
2. Make sure your personality shines through. This is a big deal for any customer service job. This will allow them to see how you interact with others, specifically customers.
3. Smile and remember your manners.
4. Give a nice, firm handshake at the beginning and end of the interview. Just remember — not too firm.
5. It’s always a great idea to bring a few extra copies of your resume to any interview. Sometimes there will be an additional manager sitting in on the interview that hasn’t seen your resume.
6. Speak clearly and properly. You have to be clear spoken to be understood — by customers, too!
7. Be honest if asked about your background. Chances are if they are asking about it, they’re going to look into it anyway. Being up front about the circumstances weighs in your favor. It shows them you are willing to be upfront about the situation and it also gives you the chance to explain the situation surrounding the offense.
8. Be able to provide two to three positive things that came as a result to your record (i.e., changed your way of thinking; matured you; makes you strive harder because people look for you to fail, etc.).
9. Be sure to ask any questions you have pertaining to the job or the company. Employers tend to like this because it shows you’re interested and thinking about the company.

Bahama Breeze doesn’t make it clear one way or the other. They do ask on their application about previous criminal history (we looked) — but the state you live in and how old the conviction is will determine how you answer!

Although, if you’re applying for a management position, you can expect a background check. We recommend that you are upfront about your convictions during the interview.

Company ratings

What we found on glassdoor.com was that Bahama Breeze has a decent rating. They got 3.6 out of 5 stars. Not too bad for a restaurant!

Based on the feedback, the opportunity to make great money during the summer with flexible scheduling is what gives them their high rating.

But we all know that with the good comes the bad too. The long hours and requirement for working holidays seem to be the top complaints.

What felonies Bahama Breeze will not hire

Bahama Breeze hasn’t made it known, either to us directly or through employees, what felonies are a firm no from them if found on an application. See the next section for more!

What felony convictions might have a hard time getting hired here?

Bahama Breeze is a customer-facing restaurant, so violent convictions or sexual offenses may have a hard time getting hired — especially for management positions. Their management positions will probably be responsible for handling large amounts of money and other employee information, so any theft, identity theft or embezzlement charge may also make it extremely hard for you.

Does Bahama Breeze hire sex offenders?

Bahama Breeze has not made this known, unsurprisingly. We also didn’t see anything online about this.

Does Bahama Breeze drug test?

There was nothing that spoke on this one way or the other. Anytime you are actively seeking a job it is a good idea to be prepared for a drug test.
