What are the chances of Allstate hiring a felon?

Is Allstate on the Ban the Box list?

Are you aware that the Ban the Box campaign was designed to equal the playing field for job seekers with a criminal background? It’s true. Ban the Box is geared at having companies remove all questions about criminal histories from their applications. By doing so, employers make hiring decisions from the applicant’s experience and skills — not their criminal record.

The Fair Chance Business Pledge is another program that’s known for assisting former felons. Companies sign the Pledge to commit to fair hiring practices for all, including former felons.

Unfortunately, like many companies, Allstate wasn’t found to support either of these initiatives. But it’s okay — being a supporter isn’t required in order to be able to hire someone with a criminal past!

Does Allstate have special programs for hiring felons?

No, they don’t. While these programs are great, most companies don’t offer them. Even though Allstate doesn’t have any of these programs, we saw they offer reimbursement for classes and licenses after two years of service.

Interview

Since this is an insurance company, you’ll want to make sure you’re neat and professional. It is a good idea to remove and piercings and to cover any tattoos if possible.

This is a great example where references can help you. It is a good idea to have three to four references that can speak to your character and work ethic.

Since we know your background could possibly be an issue with Allstate, use this time to your advantage and make them aware of your record. It will give you the opportunity to see if your record will prevent you from being hired here!

Does Allstate do background checks?

Yes, Allstate makes it clear that a background check will be done.

Here are some things to keep in mind regarding background checks:

There are now states that will only see an offense if it’s less than seven years old. Here are those states:

  • California
  • Colorado*
  • Kansas*
  • Maryland*
  • Massachusetts
  • Montana
  • Nevada
  • New Hampshire*
  • New York*
  • Texas*
  • Washington*

(*certain pay or salary bracket positions may require a screening.)

We also have states that will only see guilty convictions. They are as follows:

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Hawaii
  • Indiana (limited check)
  • Kentucky
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • New York

Most states will still look at everything. Such as:

  • Alabama
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Connecticut
  • DC
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Idaho
  • Indiana (extensive check)
  • Iowa
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Mississippi
  • Missouri
  • Nebraska
  • New Jersey
  • North Carolina
  • North Dakota
  • Ohio
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Utah
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia
  • Wisconsin
  • Wyoming

Company ratings

We wanted to know what people had to say about what working at Allstate was like. We turned to glassdoor.com and saw that they are rated with 3.4 out of 5 stars.

Looking at the many reviews, most employees say Allstate is a great place to work with pretty good benefits. But with the good always comes the bad, and it seems that there are constant changes that make it stressful at work and there is little room for advancement.

What felonies Allstate will not hire

Some of their positions make it clear that there are strict Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules they have to follow. As such, you shouldn’t apply if you have any felonies related to theft, violence or drugs within the past seven years, or any past convictions concerning violation of the FCC.

What felony convictions might have a hard time getting hired here?

There are a few convictions that will more than likely give you a difficult time when applying for a job with Allstate. Keep in mind any conviction that can cause car insurance rates to increase also appears to be a red flag on hiring. An offense that involves theft of personal information will make it more difficult since some positions will have access to customer information, as well.

Also, be aware that some of their positions require an insurance license, and certain convictions are barred from receiving this license.

Doeso Allstate hire sex offenders?

We couldn’t find anything specific on this and unfortunately (but not surprisingly) the company didn’t tell us directly.

Does Allstate drug test?

Yes, you can expect a drug test with Allstate.
