Yes, they do. However, not all background checks are created equal. Depending on which state you live in, the background check may be more or less extensive.
Here’s some helpful information on background checks:
First, these states don’t look at your background beyond the past seven years. So, if your offense was seven years ago (or more), it shouldn’t come up in these states:
- California
- Colorado*
- Kansas*
- Maryland*
- Massachusetts
- Montana
- Nevada
- New Hampshire*
- New York*
- Texas*
- Washington*
(* certain pay or salary bracket positions may require a more detailed check).
There are also some states that don’t consider court cases where you were found not guilty. Here are the eight states that are currently on this list:
- Alaska
- California
- Hawaii
- Indiana
- Kentucky
- Massachusetts
- Michigan
- New York
In many states, your background check will bring up your entire legal record (this includes cases where you were found not guilty). Here’s a list of those states:
- Alabama
- Arizona
- Arkansas
- Connecticut
- DC
- Delaware
- Florida
- Idaho
- Indiana
- Iowa
- Louisiana
- Maine
- Mississippi
- Missouri
- Nebraska
- New Jersey
- North Carolina
- North Dakota
- Ohio
- Oregon
- Rhode Island
- South Carolina
- Tennessee
- Utah
- Vermont
- Virginia
- West Virginia
- Wisconsin
- Wyoming

What felonies Albertsons will not hire
Albertsons didn’t tell us if there was a specific charge that would stop someone from being hired. We did find out more about their reputation for hiring, though. See below.
What felony convictions might have a hard time getting hired here?
Does Albertsons hire felons? We know that some locations have in the past. However, as with any employer, there are some convictions that make getting a job here more difficult.
A record that directly impacts the job you want to do will get in your way. For example:
- Theft, if you’re applying for a cashier or stocking position.
- An assault charge or sex offense for those seeking in-store positions.
- Driving-related charges (like DUI) for delivery driver or truck driver positions.
So, before you apply to a job, make sure your record won’t stop you. If it will, try a position in another department. You might like it, or transfer out in a few years.
Does Albertsons hire sex offenders?
We’re not totally sure about this. The company hasn’t made any statements about it, and we didn’t find anything online that told us if Albertsons hires sex offenders.
Does Albertsons drug test?
Neither their site nor the job postings we looked answered this question directly. However, it’s always safer to assume an employer will drug test and act accordingly.
The last thing you want is for them to be ready to hire you and miss out because of your test results!
