Does Orange Julius hire felons?

When we reached out to Orange Julius about their hiring policies for former felons, here is what they said.
“Each store owner determines their hiring policy. They are required to follow all state and federal guidelines.”
It’s a little bit vague, right? But it’s also good news for you. Since hiring is left up to the stores to decide, you only need to worry about impressing the hiring manager.
Have they hired felons in the past?
When we reached out to Orange Julius to ask if they have hired felons in the past, their answer was unclear. Rather than saying one way or another, they replied that each store follows their own hiring policy.
However, we do know from outside sources that former felons have gotten employment at Orange Julius in the past.
Does Orange Julius hire people with misdemeanors?
Of course, former felonies are not the only issues that can hold someone back during a job hunt. Lesser offenses can also be a problem.
Again, it is hard to say if Orange Julius will hire someone with a misdemeanor. Since each store makes their own hiring decisions, the answer is that they probably have hired people with misdemeanors in the past.
Is Orange Julius on the Ban the Box list?
The Ban the Box movement is a product of the Obama administration. The purpose is to remove questions about criminal records from job applications. The goal is to let former felons apply for jobs with the skills of their present, without being held back by the mistakes of their past.
Unfortunately, Orange Julius has not signed the pledge.
There is also an initiative called the Fair Chance Business Pledge. This is a promise to grant equal opportunities for people with a criminal record. Employers who take this pledge promise to hire former felons, remove obstacles for them and encourage others to do the same.
Orange Julius has not taken this pledge. However, they do have to follow the rules of the eleven states (California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington) that have Ban the Box laws.
Does Orange Julius have special programs for hiring felons?
Unfortunately, Orange Julius does not have special programs for hiring felons. Does this mean that you won’t be able to get a job at Orange Julius with a felony? No. What it does mean is that it is hard to say how easy it will be.
What are the odds someone with a felony will get hired?
The answer is uncertain. We aren’t sure what the odds of you getting hired at a specific location are.
In the Ban the Box states, you are going to have the same odds as anyone else of getting an interview. In the rest of the country, it will be up to the individual owner of the store.
The lack of a corporate policy could work in your favor. Unfortunately, you will not benefit from any requirements to hire former felons. However, you also will not be held back by corporate restrictions.
In other words, if you can impress the manager, you will have a good chance of getting hired.
What are some entry-level jobs?
At Orange Julius, there are lots of entry-level positions. The company has employees doing everything from cooking to customer service to manning the cash register.
Most of the entry-level positions do not require much in terms of past experience. However, if you have worked in the food industry before, it helps. Since this is a customer service industry, it will also help to have people skills.
A basic understanding of math will come in handy for working the register, too.
How to get hired at Orange Julius with a felony
Does Orange Julius hire felons? It looks like it, so here’s how to get a job at Orange Julius with a felony.
The first thing that you are going to want to do is perfect your resume.
If you have previous experience working with food, make sure you center your application around it.
Make sure that you go over your application thoroughly before turning it in. The goal is to be as error-free as possible. Don’t be shy about seeking the help of a friend, or even a career center.
Once your application catches their attention, it is time for the interview. For this part of the process, you will want to dress appropriately. Covering visible tattoos and removing unconventional piercings is a good idea for any applicant.
You will also want to try and be as relaxed as possible. Remember, most of their positions involve customer service. Show people skills that they would be happy to see in their store.
A positive attitude, a winning smile and unflinching professionalism are qualities that will help you out. Remember, there is a possibility that they will know about your criminal record. One of your goals should be to make it as difficult as possible for them to picture you in jail.
That said, if the topic of your record does come up, try and draw positives from it! If you grew as a person during your time in prison, show the manager. This will work to your benefit.
Does Orange Julius do background checks?
There is no company policy requiring background checks at each store. However, they might. It may even be up to store owners, so don’t be surprised if there is one.
Here is what you need to know about background checks
For one thing, some states don’t consider information that is older than seven years in their background checks. Here are the states that will not check back more than seven years:

(* sometimes certain pay or salary bracket positions require one.)
There are also states that will not reveal charges that you weren’t found guilty of. Here are those states:

Last, here are the states that consider your entire record (even not guilty verdicts):

The company has a 3.5 out of 5 star glassdoor.com rating. The company loses points in the departments of company culture and benefits.
Keep in mind, though, that company culture is really going to depend on how the store you work at is run. Each shop is managed uniquely. This means that the experience of working at one Orange Julius can be quite different from the experience of working at another one.
What felony convictions might have a hard time getting hired here?
Most felonies are likely to be considered equally by hiring managers. However, felonies involving theft of money are probably going to stand out. Offenses involving minors and sex crimes will also stand out due to the company’s customer base.
Since there is the possibility that you will be handling cash in your eventual position, hiring managers will be concerned with a history of theft if it comes to their attention.
Does Orange Julius drug test?
One final question. Does Orange Julius drug test? The answer: Not consistently. The company will sometimes request a drug test, but it’s not a mandatory part of the hiring process.
If you are applying, there is no reason to expect a drug test. However, it is a good idea to be prepared.
