See, many of us at Relaunch Pad understand what you go through when looking for a job with a felony record. The majority of us have been in your shoes and are former felons too. We chose to use our experiences to help make the job search a little bit easier for people like us!

Official company policy for hiring felons

When we contacted Taylor, this is the policy they gave us:

“Our policy is: We do not hire anyone with a felony that has occurred within the past 10 years. If the felony is older than 10 years, we would allow that.”

So, does Taylor hire felons? We are glad to tell you they do!

Has Taylor hired felons in the past?

Taylor told us they would hire a former felon with a felony over 10 years old, but have they hired felons before? After looking at online sources, we weren’t able to pin down an exact answer for this question.

This might not mean anything, though. We learned more about how to get a job at Taylor with a felony from our research, so keep reading!

Does Taylor hire people with misdemeanors?

While seeking information about how to get a job at Taylor with a felony, we also looked to see if they hire people with misdemeanors. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to find anything that directly spoke on this. However, since they’re willing to give former felons a chance that someone with a misdemeanor would have a shot too.

Is Taylor on the Ban the Box list?

Society is slowly becoming aware of the struggles former felons face. This is how the Ban the Box campaign and the Fair Chance Business Pledge came about. Both of these initiatives are designed to help individuals with criminal records get back into the workforce.

The Ban the Box campaign urges employers to remove all questions asking about previous criminal records from their job applications. Doing this leaves the employer no choice but to look at your abilities first. This increases your chance at an interview.

Businesses make a tailored pledge to follow fair hiring practices for all applicants, including those with a criminal record, if they follow the Fair Chance Business Pledge.

Taylor doesn’t support either, yet. But guess what? We looked at their application, and they don’t ask about previous convictions!

No, these programs aren’t offered here.

What are the odds someone with a felony will get hired?

High likelihood of being hired with a felony

Are you nervous about applying at Taylor with a felony? Don’t be! The odds of you being hired here are high. Taylor told us that they will hire someone with a felony conviction, as long as it’s 10 years old.

What are some entry-level jobs?

They’ve got two basic entry-level positions for you to consider, though keep in mind they want at least a high school education here:

  • Customer Service Representative I — This is a call center position, so you’ll be on the phones talking to people and responding to emails. Answering questions and assisting customers with their orders will be the main focus for this job.
  • Customer Service Representative II — This position mirrors C/S Rep I with more responsibilities and skills. Must be able to work independently and have strong MS office skills, as well.

How to get hired at Taylor with a felony

Here are some great suggestions to help you out:

First, make sure you look over their website. See what positions they have available that you are interested in and that you qualify for. Like most applications, the first thing they will request is for you to upload your resume. Don’t panic. We are here to help in this area too! We have an entire section mapped out for the resume. So be sure to check it out for some awesome tips on highlighting all your skills.

Remember you should also include those jobs you had while incarcerated. Here are a few examples:

  1. GED Tutor— Helping others learn is a form of customer service and also requires attention to detail.
  2. Librarian — Computer skills and organizational skills transfer to almost any job!
  3. Chapel Worker — Assisting in scheduling and maintaining order for the church services is experience that can be used in office positions.

Each of these jobs required helping other people and being able to explain certain procedures. They also require computer experience, attention to detail, and working with others. Many prisons now offer vocational classes such as maintenance and office administration courses that can be included on your resume, as well.

After you have completed your resume and submitted your application, you need to be ready for an interview.

Here are a few things to remember for any interview:

  1. Be neat and presentable. An outfit you would wear to a church function is always a good choice.
  2. Arrive 10-15 minutes early.
  3. Bring at least two copies of your resume with you. This way you can provide one to your interviewer and anyone else you come in contact with.
  4. Greet the interviewer with a nice firm handshake, while making eye contact and smiling.
  5. Before leaving, thank them for taking the time to meet with you.

You want to get the most out of your interview, so we advise that you present anything you can to out shine all the other applicants. This will be your chance to tell them about your past, briefly explain the situation, and tell them how you have overcome the situation. It also provides the interviewer the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. This will also be the best time for any questions or concerns you may have.

Does Taylor do background checks?

Even though Taylor doesn’t ask about your criminal history on their application, it’s assumed they’ll still run a background check. We found nothing that mentioned a background check, but since they have restrictions, it’s almost a guarantee they’ll perform one.

Company ratings

Taylor was rated with 3.3 out of 5 stars on glassdoor.com. The negative ratings came from a lack of benefits and low pay. However, Taylor received some praise for the people who’ve worked there since it became a privately-owned company.

What felony convictions might have a hard time getting hired here?

We didn’t find anything regarding specific convictions that may disqualify you here. However, we’ve thought of a couple that might cause you trouble:

  • Theft crimes may be looked at with strict guidelines. There would be some expensive equipment that most positions would have access to.
  • Violent offenses generally always have a harder time with a lot of positions. Some of the positions Taylor offers deals with the public directly so this may make it difficult getting your foot in the door.

It’s very possible that someone with these convictions can be hired — it just means they may have to try a little harder. Don’t forget, though, that your felony needs to be 10 years old at least or it will stop you!

Does Taylor drug test?

We are unsure if Taylor will perform a drug screen or not. Our best advice would be to be prepared anyway.
