With that in mind, let’s look into how to get hired at Roehl Transport.

What are some entry-level jobs?

We know people have been hired at Roehl Transport with a felony. Now we need to know what job we should be applying for! Roehl Transport offers driving (trucking) and non-driving jobs, like warehouse work. Their entry-level work covers:

  1. Paid CDL Training: If you have no history of OWI, DUI or DWI convictions, you can qualify for this program. This is a four week paid training program that hires you on day one and follows up with three weeks of over-the-road training with a supervisor. What a great way to get into the trucking industry!
  2. Inexperienced Driver: Fresh to the industry? This job is for you. It allows you to gain firsthand experience in trucking to supplement what you learned in class. Inexperienced drivers are enrolled in a Safety and Job Skills Truck Driver program to get them on the road ASAP in the safest manner possible.
  3. Warehouse Specialist: Stores, retrieves and helps stock goods which are transported on Roehl’s trucking line. While prior office or warehouse experience is a plus, it isn’t required to apply for this position. This is a great way to get your foot in the door if you aren’t interested in the trucking jobs.
  4. Entry-Level Technician: If you’re more interested in working on cars or trucks, this is a good fit. Prior experience is not necessary to apply since they’ll train you. This position has a flexible schedule in case you need something less traditional.

How to get hired at Roehl Transport with a felony

First, decide what job you are applying for: A driving or non-driving job.

The application process will ask if you have any OWI, DUI or DWI felonies. It will also ask if you are capable of passing a hair follicle test.

If you can’t get a CDL, start at the non-driving jobs page. There you will find descriptions for Warehouse Specialist and Entry-Level Technician jobs.

Have those descriptions close by when getting your resume ready! A lot of people submit the same resume over and over again to every job. Tailoring your resume will give you an advantage over those people. The interviewer won’t need to think, “How does this person fit into this job?” You’ll just show them.

So, you have a regular license and a great driving record? Great. Maybe you want to get your CDL or you’re in the process of getting it? Also good. Go straight to the CDL truck driver application. It may seem weird to apply before researching further. However, Roehl doesn’t mess around. If you meet the qualifications, they will start you with a conditional job offer!

Let’s say you don’t have a driver’s license and decide on the Entry-Level Technician position. Start with what experience you have. If you have any maintenance experience, make sure to list it first. If you don’t have maintenance experience, list any “hands-on” experience that shows you are mechanically inclined.

They want to know you know how to turn a wrench so you can get started on more advanced stuff. Keep that in mind when listing the experience you have.

All applications ask you to list your job experience from the last three years. You can choose different categories like “student” or “disability” if you have any gaps in employment.

Roehl Transport lists a lot of values they want their workers to have. These are good to know to help you customize your application. Here are two key examples:

  1. Customer Care: Making the customer happy is a big priority for the business. On your resume, this could mean having done overtime to make sure important shipments are made. Show how you have put customer needs first in past jobs so the interviewer can see your customer care attitude.
  2. Accountability: This means taking responsibility for your actions, including your work. For example, if you ever were in charge of an inventory or worked a cash register, you showed accountability. It was up to you to honestly perform the duties and if mistakes happened, it was your responsibility. If you have a perfect attendance record, make sure they know it! Employers value employees who are going to show up on time, every time.

If you land an interview, let the interviewer know you take safety and customer service seriously. Share strong stories showcasing these traits.

Combine your relevant experience with a great attitude and you should have a pretty good shot at landing a job at Roehl Transport.

Does Roehl Transport do background checks?

Before you get hired, you’ll need to pass a background check. Roehl Transport does provide background checks. It says so right on their application.

While the application doesn’t ask about general criminal history, it does ask if you’ve been convicted of DWI, OWI or DUI crimes.

Here’s what you need to know about background checks:

If you’re in the following states, you’re in luck! They don’t look into your criminal history if it is seven years old or older:

  • California
  • Colorado*
  • Kansas*
  • Maryland*
  • Massachusetts
  • Montana
  • Nevada
  • New Hampshire*
  • New York*
  • Texas*
  • Washington*

(* sometimes certain pay or salary bracket positions require one.)

Even better, if you’re in the states below, a background check will not show felonies or misdemeanors in which you were declared not guilty:

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Hawaii
  • Indiana (limited check)
  • Kentucky
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • New York

The states on this list have the most complete form of background checks. They include all crimes you’ve been charged with, including ones in which you were found not guilty:

  • Alabama
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Connecticut
  • DC
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Idaho
  • Indiana (extensive check)
  • Iowa
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Mississippi
  • Missouri
  • Nebraska
  • New Jersey
  • North Carolina
  • North Dakota
  • Ohio
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Utah
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia
  • Wisconsin
  • Wyoming

Company ratings

Roehl Transport got 3.5 out of 5 stars on glassdoor.com, which is an average rating.

Employees praised the flexible schedule. Since truckers have to work many days away from home, they get a lot of days to spend at home as well! However, some employees complained it’s possible to get overworked, possibly compromising worker safety as a result.

Despite that, a whopping 71% of employees would recommend the job to a friend.

What felony convictions might have a hard time getting hired here?

DWI, OWI or DUI felonies can automatically disqualify you from getting hired due to the driving nature of the job. This could also pose a problem for warehouse jobs because they may want forklift certification for warehouse positions.

Felony convictions involving the distribution of a controlled substance may also post problems. Roehl may fear that the trucking routes could be abused to smuggle products.

Lastly, severe violent convictions could get you disqualified. Roehl Transport will want to make sure their partners in the supply chain are safe.

Does Roehl Transport drug test?

Roehl Transport does conduct pre-employment drug testing. Passing this drug screen is a prerequisite to their paid CDL training program as well as their driving and warehouse jobs. They will do both urine and hair follicle testing.

This means you have to be sober for a minimum of six months before you even apply — their application says as much.
