What are the chances of LKQ hiring a felon?

Is LKQ on the Ban the Box list?

The Ban the Box list and the Fair Chance Business Pledge are two programs to help felons get back on their feet.

Ban the Box is a list of companies that have committed to removing the checkbox from applications asking if you’ve been convicted of any crimes.

The Fair Chance Business Pledge is similar to this. It’s a promise made by employers not to judge you based on any past convictions, but on your skills and talents instead.

LKQ doesn’t participate in either of these programs, but we took it upon ourselves to check out their online applications. While most of their applications don’t ask about convictions, they do ask about driving convictions for driving positions.

Does LKQ have special programs for hiring felons?

LKQ doesn’t have any special hiring programs for ex-offenders at this time. That’s okay, because most companies don’t. If you’re interested in something like this, we suggest checking with your local unemployment office or workforce development agency for more information.

What are the odds someone with a felony will get hired?

High likelihood of hiring felons

After plenty of research, we give your odds of getting hired at LKQ with a felony as high. They aren’t on the Ban the Box list and our sources don’t confirm either way if they’ll hire those with a conviction on their record. However, if you’re willing to work and put in the extra effort, you may be able to land an entry-level position. A lot of reports online support this!

How to get hired at LKQ with a felony

What are some entry-level jobs?

Tips to get hired here with a felony

So, you want to get a job at LKQ with a felony. You’ll need to have a good resume to include with your application. Find the job you’re qualified for on their Careers page, and keep these points in mind!

Be sure to include any relevant job experience. If you hold a special driver’s license or CDL, include that information for any driving positions. Also mention if you’ve worked for a competing automotive company like Advanced Auto Parts or AutoZone.

Have a friend or family member look over your resume and application before you send it, checking for any errors.

Employment agencies are also a good resource to help with the job search. They have useful resources and city-specific information.

Start the interview process off on a good note by showing up 10-15 minutes early and looking like someone who could work there. Wear business-casual clothes or something that looks like the uniform there. Take out any piercings and hide your tattoos, if possible, until you know what their policies are about them.

Talk about your previous job experiences and how you’ve learned skills that make you a great candidate for the position. Take what you put on your resume, and make it real for them.

It’s best to be upfront and honest about your past since they’ll find out about it anyway. Use this to talk about what you learned while in prison and what you’ve been doing with your life since to make changes for the better.

Does LKQ do background checks?

Yes. You must agree to a background check when completing their application. It looks like they are mostly looking for driving convictions, though.

Here’s what you need to know about background checks:

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Hawaii
  • Indiana (limited check)
  • Kentucky
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • New York

However, be aware that there are still states that’ll see your entire record. This includes any not guilty cases. Keep this in mind if you’re in one of these states:

  • Alabama
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Connecticut
  • DC
  • Delaware
  • Florida
