Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) is a food processing company. If you’re looking for employment, they may have exactly what you need . . . if ADM hires felons. That’s the rub, isn’t it? But you’re in the right place!

The job market isn’t always friendly to people with records. That is why we at Relaunch Pad do what we can to make things a little bit easier. We go directly to the source to ask companies about their hiring policies for former felons. We’ve done this more than 1,000 times to companies across the US, including to ADM, and really know what we’re talking about.

Our writers are all knowledgeable about the job market, and many have personal experience trying to find work with a felony on their record.

In addition to covering hiring policies, we also look at a number of other important questions that may be on your mind, such as:

  • Does ADM hire people with misdemeanors?
  • Does ADM do background checks?
  • Will they test for drugs?

Read on for some information that may help you get a job at ADM with a felony!

Official company policy for hiring felons

As always, we went directly to the source to find out the company’s hiring policy. Unfortunately, they haven’t gotten back to us yet. We will continue following up in the hopes of updating our guide. Until then, though, there is some additional information we can provide based on our own research.

From what we were able to find, it looks like the company is at least open to hiring people with records. However, the responses were mixed, and, at this time, we are unable to determine how they make these decisions.

Has ADM hired felons in the past?

Our research shows ADM has hired felons in the past.

Does ADM hire people with misdemeanors?

Though we haven’t seen any direct accounts of people with misdemeanors working at ADM, it stands to reason that this is a possibility. Companies that have hired former felons will usually demonstrate a similar openness to hiring people with misdemeanors.

Will ADM hire you with pending charges?

Considering how open the company is to rehabilitated offenders, there’s a chance. You’ll have to show them you’re past your charges or explain them somehow, undoubtedly, but ADM is likely to give you a shot.

What are the chances of ADM hiring a felon?

Is ADM on the Ban the Box list?

The Ban the Box Movement operates with the goal of removing questions about a candidate’s criminal history from job applications. The hope is that former felons will no longer be dismissed on sight so their applications have a chance at been reviewed fairly.

The Fair Chance Business Pledge is similar. Participating businesses promise they will not discriminate in their hiring process based on criminal records.

Unfortunately, ADM has no current affiliation with either program. The good news is that you shouldn’t feel too disheartened by this. A company doesn’t have to be on this list to hire a previous offender!

Does ADM have special programs for hiring felons?

A few businesses feature special programs that make it a little bit easier for former felons to get hired. Though rare, these programs do expedite the job hunt. Unfortunately, ADM does not have any such programs that we were able to find.

It certainly may still be possible to get a job at ADM with a felony. You’ll just have to apply the old fashioned way!

What are the odds someone with a felony will get hired?

Average likelihood of hiring felons

So, does ADM hire felons? Let’s go over what we learned. ADM has an apparent willingness to hire former felons, and they have even done so in the past. Though they don’t participate in the Fair Chance Business Pledge, or have any special programs to hire people with criminal records, this still seems like a good sign.

From what we can tell at this point, your chances of getting hired are average. And of course, once we hear from the company, we may be able to update this status further!

What are some entry-level jobs?

We also took a look at a few entry-level jobs here. Most seem to be in manufacturing warehouses, processing grain or soy, and getting the company’s products ready to ship.

While hours may vary based on location, most factories operate around the clock, seven days a week, which means you could have a wide range of different shifts.

Tips to get hired here with a felony

You’re going to want to really show off to ADM. This means submitting a perfect application. We’re here for you! We know resume writing can be fairly difficult for anyone, but there are ways to make the process easier.

The objective is to highlight skills relevant to the position you’re applying for. For this job, we’re talking factory positions. Of course, if you’ve ever worked in a factory before, this is something worth mentioning.

However, if not, you can still point out relevant skills. For example, factory jobs tend to require a lot of teamwork, so you may want to point out jobs in which you’ve worked closely with others. This could include restaurant kitchens or busy stores!

No matter how experienced you are, you should get a second pair of eyes on your resume before you send it out. Seek the help of a career center where experts can give you advice specific to the job you’re applying for.

Once you’ve perfected the information, it’s time to prepare for the interview. Though it’s natural to feel nervous, there are ways you can maximize your confidence. You may even decide that you’d like to have a practice interview with a friend or family member to calm your nerves.

No matter what, though, make sure that you show up dressed professionally. This means covering tattoos and removing piercings. You’ll be told all about the dress code when you get hired.

Does ADM do background checks?

It seems that ADM does perform background checks.

However, where you live will have a big impact on what shows up.

For example, in some states, the company can only look seven years into your past. In these states, ADM won’t learn about things that happened more than seven years ago:

  • California
  • Colorado*
  • Kansas*
  • Maryland*
  • Massachusetts
  • Montana
  • Nevada
  • New Hampshire*
  • New York*
  • Texas*
  • Washington*

*certain pay or salary bracket positions sometimes require one.

These states will see every conviction you’ve had, but not your not guilty verdicts:

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Hawaii
  • Indiana (limited check)
  • Kentucky
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • New York

There are still many states that include your entire record in their background checks. In these places, ADM will learn everything:

  • Alabama
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Connecticut
  • DC
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Idaho
  • Indiana (extensive check)
  • Iowa
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Mississippi
  • Missouri
  • Nebraska
  • New Jersey
  • North Carolina
  • North Dakota
  • Ohio
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Utah
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia
  • Wisconsin
  • Wyoming

What felonies ADM will not hire

There aren’t any charges that will automatically disqualify you from hire that we found. That doesn’t mean the company won’t say no. Read below for more.

What felony convictions might have a hard time getting hired here?

Since most of the entry-level jobs take place in the factory setting, the company may be reluctant to hire people with drug- or alcohol-related offenses.

And, because teamwork may be involved, sexual or violent offenses could be weighed against you as well.

Does ADM hire sex offenders?

The company didn’t say. This isn’t something many companies talk about freely, though, so no surprise. We also couldn’t find anything online about it.

Does ADM drug test?

It looks like they will drug test.
