Raytheon does background checks; they told us so. The Raytheon HR Rep said that a third party company gives background checks before the job offer is given.
One thing worth noting is that many Raytheon positions require having a security clearance or the ability to gain one.
If you get screened for a security clearance, everything in your record will be investigated.
What to know about background checks:
For some states, seven years is the limit of how far a background check can go. If your felony took place seven or more years ago, it will not be a factor in these states:
- California
- Colorado*
- Kansas*
- Maryland*
- Massachusetts
- Montana
- Nevada
- New Hampshire*
- New York*
- Texas*
- Washington*
(* sometimes certain pay or salary bracket positions require one.)
Every bit helps. In certain states, crimes in which you were declared not guilty will not be disclosed on your background check. See them here:
- Alaska
- California
- Hawaii
- Indiana (limited check)
- Kentucky
- Massachusetts
- Michigan
- New York
It can’t all be good news. If you live in one of the states below, they’ll look at your entire record. Guilty or not guilty, all charges and convictions will be visible. Keep that in mind when applying in these states:
- Alabama
- Arizona
- Arkansas
- Connecticut
- DC
- Delaware
- Florida
- Idaho
- Indiana (extensive check)
- Iowa
- Louisiana
- Maine
- Mississippi
- Missouri
- Nebraska
- New Jersey
- North Carolina
- North Dakota
- Ohio
- Oregon
- Rhode Island
- South Carolina
- Tennessee
- Utah
- Vermont
- Virginia
- West Virginia
- Wisconsin
- Wyoming
Company ratings
Before you apply for a company, it helps to know what its employees think of it. On Glassdoor, Raytheon scored a 3.6 rating out of 5 stars. A whopping 71% of Raytheon employees would recommend working there and 87% approved of the CEO. Employees clearly enjoy working there, but what are the pros and cons?
Pros include good benefits and a good work life balance. Cons include the need for travel. Some employees also said only the upper management gets the flexibility.
What felonies Raytheon will not hire
Unsurprisingly, a company that works with government contractors has a few felonies on their no-go list.
Here they are:
There are three categories of persons who are exempt from getting any kind of clearance:
(1) any person who is an unlawful user or addicted to a controlled substance; (2) any person who is deemed mentally incompetent by a licensed professional; and (3) any person who has been discharged from the armed forces under dishonorable conditions.
What felony convictions might have a hard time getting hired here?
Clearance Examiners also look harshly on felonies like embezzlement and DUIs.
Each examiner (and Raytheon’s HR representatives) will look at each case individually, though. It’s up to you to compare your situation to the standards set by the government.
Does Raytheon hire sex offenders?
They didn’t tell us, and we didn’t see any evidence online that they would or would not.
Does Raytheon drug test?
We couldn’t find anything directly from Raytheon that said they drug tested employees. However, we did find a source where people claiming to be Raytheon employees said they were given a pre-employment drug screen.
Odds are that Raytheon does drug test and it’s recommended that you be ready to take one.
